To demonstrate on-going support to those impacted by flooding after Tropical Cyclone Debbie we have launched ‘Wrap Up Northern NSW’.
The project aims to collect 48,000 knitted squares to collate into 1000 patchwork blankets to be distributed across the region.
The blankets will become tangible ‘keepsakes’ to represent the on-going care of the wider community, wrapping up those on a journey home from this disaster and beyond.
The project is inspired by the hugely successful ‘Wrap Up Canberra’ Project which distributed over 800 blankets to home owners who lost everything in the 2003 Firestorm.
We aim to create 1000 patchwork blankets and will require 48,000 knitted and crocheted squares for this project.
We require 20cm (approx 8 inches) knitted or crocheted squares.
We prefer to support the wool industry by using pure wool, but will accept any yarn.
Small variations on either side of this measurement will be ok, but please try to knit or crochet as close to 20 cm square as possible.
Each finished blanket will have 48 squares and measure approximately 120cm x 160cm.
Squares can be posted to:
PO Box 178 Byron Bay NSW 2481
In time we will also have in-person collection spots.
We have a facebook community for those participating in the project which will be the main place for updates. Please join us at:
